The Power of God Unto Salvation
 
Romans 1:16-17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous man shall live by faith.’”

I. GOD’S HOLINESS – “God is wholly different or set apart from everything else”
A. God the Creator and Sustainer (Romans 1:18-23) – “divine nature” – Godhood
     i. All Powerful (Psalm 115:3) – “eternal power” “incorruptible”
     ii. All Knowing (Psalm 147:5, Romans 8:29)
     iii. All Present (Psalm 139:7-10)
B. God the Judge – “the One with whom we have to do” (Romans 2:5-11, 16)
     i. Immutable (Malachi 3:6, James 1:17)
     ii. Impartial (Deuteronomy 10:17, Acts 10:34)
     iii. Incomprehensible (Job 11:7-9, Isaiah 55:8-9)
C. God is Supreme – Isaiah 44:6-7

II. MAN’S SINFULNESS – (Romans 3:9-18, 23) Sin = missing the mark of God, wrong
A. Separation/Enmity (Isaiah 59:2)
B. Slavery – under the law of sin (2 Timothy 2:26, Titus 3:3, Hebrews 2:15)
C. Condemnation – (Proverbs 12:2, Mark 16:16, 2 Thessalonians 2:12)
D. Death – (1 Corinthians 15:56, Galatians 3:10, Ephesians 2:1, Jude 12)
E. Evil/weakness in heart/mind – (Ephesians 4:17-19, Romans 1:21)

III. GOD’S WRATH AND LOVE – both are seen in the cross (Romans 3:24-26)
A. Jesus – the spotless Lamb of God (1 Peter 1:17-19, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
B. Jesus – the propitiation for our sins (1 John 2:2, 4:10)
C. Jesus – the resurrected Lord (Acts 1:3, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Romans 8:34)

IV. GOD’S GIFT – (Romans 5:6-11, 15-19)
A. Reconciliation – to bring back together, mend a broken relationship (Ephesians 2:11-16)
B. Redemption – to purchase, to pay a ransom in full (Galatians 3:13, 4:4-5)
C. Justification – being judged ‘not guilty’ (Isaiah 53:11, Romans 8:1, 1 Corinthians 6:11)
D. Regeneration – rebirth, renovation, restoring to proper state (Titus 3:5, John 3)
E. Sanctification – to make holy, set apart for God’s use (Hebrews 12:14, Acts 26:18)

V. MAN’S CHOICE – (Romans 6:3-11, 16-23)
A. Man has free will (Isaiah 65:1-2, 12, Matthew 23:37, Deuteronomy 11:26-28)
B. God calls through the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:14, John 12:32, John 6:44-45)
C. Counting the costs (Luke 14:25-35, Matthew 16:24-26)
D. Rejection leads to hell (1 Peter 4:17, 2 Thessalonians 1:8)
E. Acceptance leads to heaven
     i. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
     ii. Matthew 10:32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.”
     iii. Acts 11:18 “When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, ‘Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life.” (see also 2 Corinthians 7:10)
     iv. Mark 16:16 “He who has believed and is baptized shall be saved, but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.”
